The GEOMAP Dedication Ceremony

CakeOn November 9, 2007, the Department of Geography-Geology dedicated the Institute for Geospatial Analysis & Mapping (GEOMAP).

Dr. Jerome (Jerry) Dobson graciously participated in the dedication ceremonies of GEOMAP. Dobson is a professor of geography at the University of Kansas and president of the American Geographical Society.

Dobson delivered a talk “Restoring Geography in America” as the year’s Ridgley Lecturer.  He demonstrated the important role for geography and GIS in our changing world, and articulated the additional needs for geography in the university curriculum.  Dobson recently published a highly acclaimed article, “Bring Back Geography”, in the spring 2007 issue of ArcNews, published by ESRI.  During his visit Dobson also gave an interview to WILL-AM’s “Focus 580”, WGLT, and WJBC.
